Hi, I am Brooke. I am a serial optimist on a quest to spread a little good in the world and a story teller of those on the same adventure.
In 2012 my life took a crazy turn. I went from being on the fast track to the corner office to unemployed. Never saw it coming. Peers and mentors told me I was destined to run a network, be the boss, maybe even run the world. Okay, running the world was my secret mission, but still – it’s only a small leap from running a network to running the world, right? And if you ask Rupert Murdoch, I’m sure he’d tell you they’re one and the same. How did I end up jobless with no direction as to where to go next?
To keep busy waiting for the next door to open, because obviously the door was going to open, I filled my days with volunteering. Cut to almost two years later and I’ve never been happier. I’m back to work full time, no longer in the entertainment business, and charity and giving back is still a big part of my daily life. Being a Charity Girl has been the most fulfilling chapter of my life thus far.
Now before you go and start thinking I’m some Pollyanna do gooder and say to yourself, all of that is nice in theory, but ain’t nobody got time for that. You’re the reason why I started this blog. Charity is no longer about being wealthy or needing something to do because you have too much time on your hands. Instead, today’s Charity Girls are people like you and me. We work full time jobs, we all wish we had more hours in the day, we’re all a little tighter than we’d prefer to be on the cash flow, many have families they are creating and growing, but we all care about something bigger than ourselves.
I am here to introduce you to the modern day Charity Girl; to share the stories of those out there doing good on a daily basis, inspire you to find new and creative ways you can give back in your already hectic life, and teach you more about the Charity Girl world. Hopefully it will change your perspective and inspire you to become a modern day Charity Girl.
